We’re using FitNesse actively in our current team. I’ve been curious about FitNesse + Slim in .net for a while now, but I’ve never tried it. The main reason is that I don’t see a clear advantage to using Slim. I watched a video from Bob Martin half a year ago, and I didn’t get the advantage of Slim over FitNesse.

What I would like to see is the advantages I would get by using Slim. The ‘how to …’ tutorials would be nice, but that would be the next step.

The primary advantage of Slim over Fit, is that Slim is supported, and Fit is not.

The next most important advantage is that all the new FitNesse features will support slim and not Fit. This includes things like Scenario Tables, Rich test history, rich test results in XML, etc.

There are many other advantages such as footprint size, consitency accross different platforms, etc.

In short, Slim is the future for Fitnesse.

I have used Fitnesse in the context of a training and i really felt more support on the product would have been useful. Slim i have not had a chance to evaluate but i guess documentation and different scenarios would be of great help.

We’re using C# and Fitnesse on a real project. We’ve been using the fitlibrary dll. No one here knows the Slim stuff yet.

I’ve been trying to learn Slim but the query table stuff has bogged me down. In RowFixture I had graceful naming, could invoke methods on the target class, etc.

One of the ‘gotchas’ was that I was testing for a return of a formatted response where my format was: [name“]

And that was confusing Slim before it even processed the table. (I changed the format to: (name“) to get it to work).

What I’m working on now is to see if I can take what comes into the Table() method and deduce the properties to be returned (simulating graceful naming) and get the values by reflection.

And my attempt to show my problem didn’t appear in the post. I’ll try again.

My class was returning a formatted string:

  ["name":"value"]

that had to be changed to:

  ("name":"value")

To keep it from being interpreted as a list.

I’ve been following Slim en Fitness, (read following the blogs including yours). I think it has great promess (obviously) but the lack of documentation or .Net keeps me from using it. So C# examples, etc would be a great help.

Some basic examples would do. But a nice tutorial about setting it up and using throughout the lifetime of a project would even be more interesting.
